|
In addition to the Family, Lands, Criminal Civil and the Commercial Divisions the High Court of Uganda has established two more Divisions that is the War Crimes and the Anti-Corruption Divisions. This makes the total number of High Court Divisions seven. Just like the other Divisions each of the two divisions has its functions and these are:- War Crimes Division:- As a party to the Treaty of International Criminal Court (ICC) (Rome Statute), Uganda has an obligation to provide the necessary structures to try perpetrators of International crimes and grave violations of humanitarian law. The Juba Agreements especially Agenda item 3 on Accountability and Reconciliation also provided another opportunity for Uganda to come up with the necessary mechanisms to address the issues of impunity. To this end, the War Crimes Division was established to fulfill these obligations. The Anti-Corruption Division:-Will handle corruption, embezzlement, causing financial loss, abuse of office, money laundering, bank forgeries and theft.
