The Inspectorate of Government is set to have a new face in the public eye, following the president’s nomination of Hon. Lady Justice Irene Mulyagonja Kakooza for the position of the Inspector General of Government which has been vacant for close to three years. The Inspectorate handed over 160 files on continuing cases in courts of law to the Directorate of Public Prosecution following a constitutional Court ruling that froze its activities till it is fully constituted. According to the acting IGG Raphael Bakku; the president’s delay in appointing officials to the vacant offices caused case back logs. Currently, the inspectorate has one deputy IGG, out of the mandated two and there are fears that could continue to jeopardize the inspectorate’s work. The newly nominated IGG, Hon. Lady Justice Irene Mulyagonja a judge of the High Court, has been working at Commercial division and has been accredited for being one of the best performing judges. She was appointed as judge in 2008. The nominee awaits the parliamentary Appointments Committee to vet and approve her. Hon. Lady Justice Irene Mulyagonja was previously in private practice and till now was stationed at the Commercial division of the High Court in Kampala. She did both her ‘O’ and A-level education in Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga before joining Makerere University where she studied Law. She later did her Masters in Zimbabwe. She is a mother of three and married to Mr. JB Kakooza. |
